See the current constitution in PDF or Word format.
Proposed changes (to be voted on by Ordinary Members at the 2026 AGM): see the marked up Word document here and explanations below.
Change from:
2.1.2 Operate as part of the global WePlanet Network, ensuring our organisation reflects the following:
2.1.2.1. WePlanet’s principles and values (see 3.1)
2.1.2.2. WePlanet’s four policy pillars (see 3.2)
2.1.2.3. WePlanet’s Red Lines (see 3.3)
2.1.2.4. WePlanet Branding
Change to:
2.1.2. Operate as part of the global WePlanet network, ensuring our organisation reflects WePlanet’s values, principles and objectives.
(Also remove reference to the principles and values, policy pillars, Red Lines, and Branding from section 8.3.4.)
Explanation
WePlanet (international) requires its national branches to "share [WePlanet's] values, principles and objectives" so we should make sure we do that.
Their policy pillars and Red Lines might not always be presented as they are now — a change could render this section nonsensical.
Change:
Sections 2.1.3, 2.1.4 and 2.1.5 refer to "the values and principles of WePlanet."
Refer instead to "our [WePlanet Australia's] values and principles".
Explanation
WePlanet Australia (as distinct from WePlanet international) has its own values and principles, and point 2.1.2 already states our commitment to share WePlanet's objectives.
Change from:
Sections 3.1–3.3 list eleven principles and values; four WePlanet Policy Pillars; and three WePlanet Red Lines.
Change to:
3.1 to list seven core values — things we believe are inherently valuable.
3.2 to list three principles — ways in which we strive to conduct ourselves.
Explanation
WePlanet Australia volunteers recently undertook a process of refining our values and principles from the "defaults" that we inherited from WePlanet international in 2023.
Change:
Explanation
Numerous changes for clarity only to Section 13. Appointment or election of secretary
This section has so far been unchanged from the template provided by Fair Trading QLD. It appears to stipulate that if the office of Secretary becomes vacant, then the Management Committee may appoint a non-member to be the Secretary, as long as the person lives in QLD. If this is the intent, it can be stated more succintly.
New sections:
Addition of two new sections:
45. Gift Fund, and
46. Conduit Policy.
Explanation
Our constitution must contain these provisions if WePlanet Australia is to gain Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. DGR status lets people make tax-deductible donations to an organisation.
